Iran welcomes PKK dissolution, calls for regional stability

Iran has welcomed the dissolution of the PKK, expressing hope for greater stability in Turkey and the region. Turkish President Erdogan praised the move as a step toward peace. The PKK’s offshoot, PJAK, faces an uncertain future following the announcement.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has welcomed the dissolution of the Kurdish militant group Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), expressing hope that this development will contribute to greater stability in Turkey and the broader region.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated, "We see the announcement of the dissolution of PKK as an important step towards rejecting violence and strengthening security. We hope that the completion of this process will lead to the promotion of stability and peace in Turkey and the region."

The PKK, founded in the late 1970s by Abdullah Ocalan, officially announced its dissolution on Monday, marking the end of its four-decade-long armed struggle against Turkey.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the decision as an "important step for maintaining peace and fraternity" within the country.

The move was also welcomed by top officials in Syria and Iraq, as well as representatives from the European Union and the United Nations.

PJAK, a PKK offshoot established in 2004, has been actively involved in operations against Iran over the past two decades.

The group has been designated as a terrorist organization by Iran, Turkey, and the United States.
